The Stoke on Trent based label Infernal Sounds welcomes Germans, Causa and Shu to the family with their third imprint to the vinyl only label. With the badman Sepia supplying the weight last time both the newcomers have some pretty big shoes to fill, however the Dubhelmet EP definitely provides everything we have come to expect from an Infernal release.
The title track and A side to the EP is both Causa & Shu, it brings spring-like-delay on the percussion, sharp shuffling hats and a neck-snapping kick to snare groove. Emerging through the mix on each 16bar after the drop comes a warm mid-wobble giving us a look back to the simpler days of Dubstep, but with a twist.
The first B side is a solo stepper from Causa, although half the artist its certainly not half the weight. Opening with bird song, the organic feel sets in already and on the drop what sounds like the chirp of a bird on the off-beat keeps the vibe moving. Dawn Chorus continues what Dubhelmet started by reminiscing the “good old days” but still keeping things fresh.
Last on the EP is System One from Shu, droplets of water intro us into energetic hats and once the groan-like mid frequencies disperse into the drop the track opens out bringing a dream like chord stab into play. The track keeps you guessing throughout, each corner to be turned unveils a slightly different rhythm and will definitely decimate a dance floor.
