Utile brings an intelligent, dark but smooth twist to Drum and Bass, the twenty year old originally from Gloucestershire and now based in Bath takes influence from the idealistic South West countryside. Max’s aspirations include artists such as Etherwood, Hybrid Minds, Danny Byrd and Netsky, he began playing guitar as a teenager before getting into the breaks of DnB. With recent gigs in Bristol and his forthcoming debut release on Liquid Tones this year begins on a high for the young DJ and Producer.
“I enjoy making music with a soulful vibe that also contains a bit of bite to it that helps it work on the dance floor.” – Utile
This two track imprint sees Utile’s soulful side and Another Day falls nothing short of a set finisher, picturing the sun rising at an outdoor party. Melodic guitar notes and the impressive voice of Theo Jones roll through the track whilst the beat keeps firm grip of your senses. With sub-bass made for the soundsystem I recommend listening on a good Hi-Fi or pair of headphones (not Beats by Dre), altogether an immersive and emotive Drum and Bass experience.
Second on the release is titled I Didn’t Know, yet just as uplifting as its accompanying track it brings a slightly tougher sound to the ear. True to its more liquid sound though, the track still is an easy listening roller that can also move a dance-floor. Again bringing a euphoric guitar melody as does Another Day it also brings a clean rhythmic lead on the drop. Legend has it the vocal on this one is none other than Utile himself, maybe we are yet to see Max’s full potential.
